On May 15th in Milan, at the Aula Magna of the Università Statale, the annual award ceremony of the Umberto Veronesi Foundation took place, an event dedicated to supporting scientific research. Among the 141 awarded researchers there is Cristiana Barone, post-doctoral researcher at HEVA Research, a laboratory of the University of Milano-Bicocca, for her project aimed at elucidating the role of inflammation in pediatric leukemias.

The ceremony celebrated the commitment of 141 researchers and medical doctors who, in 2024, received a scholarship from the Foundation to fund their research projects. This year, the Veronesi Foundation also supported three research and care platforms, four pediatric oncology care protocols, and fourteen research projects, both Italian and international. The event, streamed online, saw the participation of distinguished figures from the scientific and institutional worlds.

Since 2003, the Veronesi Foundation has funded 2,234 researchers in 179 institutes and universities, significantly contributing to international scientific production with over 2,446 publications. The May 15th event emphasized the importance of this continuous support for excellence in research.

I was impressed,” commented Dr. Emanuele Azzoni, present at the event, “by how much the Veronesi Foundation is doing to improve the careers of young scientists and promote scientific culture in Italy.

Among the awardees, Cristiana Barone said, “I thank the Veronesi Foundation and all those who support scientific research because they believe in our ideas and support them with great professionalism and passion.
