In the era of personalized and precision medicine, we have the unique opportunity to transform the concept of imaging form “size and site” concept (i.e. defining T, N and M stage and the sites of M+) to the quantitative description of disease anatomical, physiological and biochemical features. A large innovative radiopharmaceutical portfolio guided by the most recent development in target discovery is nowadays available, resulting in an increase potential of disease phato-phenotyping. Identifying disease phenotype, will also open the challenge of understanding the connection of different multidimensional alterations at molecular, cellular, tissue, and organ levels to “explore the connection”. The explosion of quantitative advanced imaging analysis in recent years has shifted the bottleneck of scientific discovery from data generation to the need for efficient integrative methods. Trough the multiple aspects of AI discoveries multi-modal imaging integration, data fusion and crossdisciplinary is possible to constitute a new framework to disease subtyping and disease-disease relationships, providing a deep understanding of diseases features based on the advances in disease biology, bioinformatics, and, with multiple types of -omics data. Indeed, it’s just by the combination of quantitative imaging biomarkers with genetic and clinical features that we can improve the identification of key features to be use for disease characterization molecular-based and pathophenotype-based networks with the final goal of tailoring treatment to a patient's pathophysiology. I will share with you some examples that from the beginning of my career has significantly impacted my professional life and research by the progressive introduction of Multimodality, thus Multidisciplinary and the extension of the concept beyond oncology to several other disciplines for both diagnostic imaging and cancer therapeutics renewing the charm on theranostics

Prof. Paola Anna Erba is Associated Professor in Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic Imaging at the Medical Faculty of Bicocca University, Chair of the Nuclear Medicine department of the ASST Papa Giovanni XXIII in Bergamo. She is also affiliated with the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging at the University Medical Center Groningen, the Netherlands. She graduated at the Medical Faculty of Insubria University in Varese, then she got a Specialization in Nuclear Medicine at the University in Pisa, in Clinical Biochemistry at the University of Rome Tor Vergata and a PhD in “Imaging Cardiovalscular Infection” at the University Medical Center Groningen, the Netherlands. From 2022 to 2022 she was Associated Professor in Nuclear Medicine at the departments of Translational Research and New Technologies in Medicine working at the Regional Center of Nuclear Medicine at the University Hospital in Pisa. She was also the Vice Director of the Nuclear Medicine Residency Program from 2016 to 2022. Her research interest broadly covers the infection and inflammation field as well as oncology. Her main area of interest are cardiovascular infections a field where her work has resulted into the introduction of multimodality imaging in the clinical guideline in infectious endocarditis and CIEDs infections. She is currently one of the most influential scientists in this imaging field as demonstrating by her participation in several working groups and guideline panels. She is an active member of the Italian Association of Nuclear Medicine (AIMN) and the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) where she is currently serving as EANM President Elect 2023-2025. During the years of her clinical and research activities, Prof. Erba has promoted several interdisciplinary clinical studies, creating a network of young and talented investigators with local, national and international colleagues to draw effective way for reaching international visibility and building national and international networks with joint activities, publications and patents. Prof. Erba is author of 4 thesis dissertations, more than 170 Original Scientific Papers (@ October 2022 Scopus H index 36, 6486 citations) and/or case reports published on peer-reviewed international journals, about 150 abstracts in Congress Proceedings and invited speakers at several scientific national and international meetings. Editor of 4 books and 60 book chapters.
